Managed Projects

A flagship function of CVS Medway is the incubation and development of new voluntary and community organisations and projects that build capacity in the voluntary and community sector and deliver numerous social outcomes for the population of Medway.

CVS Medway has a track record of incubating voluntary and community organisations, establishing them as independent entities; examples include the Sunlight Development Trust Healthy Living Centre, Carers Centre and an Alzheimers and Dementia Family Support Service.

The SOS Bus has a primary role to provide a safe haven for any vulnerable person between 9pm and 3am on a Friday or Saturday night in the Medway Towns. The SOS Bus delivers a day time service engaging with communities throughout Medway delivering a wide variety of information and support, for example health outreach programmes and attendance at community events. MOPP operates as a voice for older people. The Mental Health Service User Engagement Project (MHSUEP) provides opportunities for mental health service users, past and present, to share their views and experiences about mental health issues and to influence mental health policy, strategy, and service provision. North Kent Training Service (NKTS)

NKTS, the training arm managed by CVS Medway, was set up in 2004 to deliver training to the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) across North Kent.NKTS offers quality training on a wide range of subjects and all trainers used are fully qualified to teach adults and are registered with the Institute for Learning.
Basis ProgrammeFunded through the Big Lottery Fund, NKTS, in partnership with Swale CVS and CVS North West Kent, offer a vast range of training courses, bothaccredited and non-accredited to ensure that staff and volunteers within the North Kent VCS are equipped to function effectively in the operating environment of the Big Society.

CVS Membership Membership StructureCVS Medway is a membership organisation and is known as a Council. A Board of Trustees made up of elected representatives from member groups runs the organisation. The Board of Trustees decide who is eligible to become a member.Membership Type - Criteria and BenefitsFull Membership Voluntary organisations, charities, community groups or self-help groups whose head office or base is in the CVS Medway area of benefit, and who support the objects and purposes of CVS.BenefitsAbility to nominate a representative to sit and vote on the Trustee Board.Be a member of the Council.Receive a free monthly newsletter and Halls for Hire List (on request)Receive the Local Directory of Voluntary Organisations at a reduced cost.Membership of a CVS strengthens the voluntary and community sector's voice both locally, regionally and nationally.Associate Membership National or Kent wide organisations whose head office is not in Medway, but they operate in Medway.BenefitsBe a member of the Council.Receive a free monthly newsletter and Halls for Hire List (on request)Receive the Local Directory of Voluntary Organisations at a reduced cost.Membership of a CVS strengthens the voluntary and community sector's voice both locally, regionally and nationally.Supporters of CVS (Medway) Public and Private organisations in the Medway area.BenefitsBe a member of the Council.Receive a free monthly newsletter and Halls for Hire List (on request)Membership of a CVS strengthens the voluntary and community sector's voice both locally, regionally and nationally.Membership - Organisations Not Eligible Party Political organisations. Where the organisation is not involved in wider community activity or where the beliefs and activities are at odds with the Council for Voluntary Service's Equal Opportunities Policy. Most churches, mosques, temples and synagogues are often involved in various community and voluntary activity and can be eligible.Pressure Groups. Where the objectives of an organisation are solely to change the law in some particular direction, its purposes are not charitable and therefore it is not eligible.Organisations not active in the Medway area.

Kent Community Foundation have the following funds open for application:The Overstone Fund - supports projects striving to reduce crime and recidivism. This includes support for individual ex-offenders and prisoners with a particular emphasis on re-training & increasing employability. This Fund will also support projects that provide countryside activities for inner city or disadvantaged children or projects that provide musical opportunities.Grants available from £500 to £2,500 Revised Deadline: 14th October 2011The Sarah & Francis Salway Grassroots Fund - interested in projects that involve local people in self-started initiatives which support the spirit and wellbeing of the community. Especially projects that support individuals and communities to help themselves in enterprising and self-sustaining ways.There is a preference for projects involving volunteers.Grants available from £250 to £5,000 Deadline: 30th October 2011The Brook Trust Fund - will make grants to organisations and individuals working to achieve positive social outcomes. Projects using early intervention where possible to tackle disadvantage, deprivation and social exclusion. Particularly in areas such as the elderly, offenders & ex-offenders, womens groups and parenting support for vulnerable families.Grants available from £500 to £5,000 Deadline: 30th October 2011 The Rooney Foundation Fund - has a specific interest in supporting those affected by disability and life-limiting conditions, especially children and young people. The fund will give grants to groups, charities, families or individuals. Families and individual applications must be referred by an independent professional charity or organization which is providing a service to the person concerned. Grants awarded on a case by case basis No Deadline The Phillips Fund - supports charities, voluntary groups and organisations using volunteers to deliver small but beneficial conservation and environmental projects to rural communities in Kent & Medway. Hands Rochester Volunteer Centre and Hands & Gillingham Volunteer Centre have been actively helping volunteers find positions and local organisations find volunteers since 1969, so we are very well qualified to assist and support you in your volunteering career. We are a registered charity (Nos. 284288 and 290169 respectively) and are part of the National Volunteer network, being fully accredited members of Volunteering England.We recruit volunteers on behalf of charitable, voluntary and statutory bodies who have requested our assistance to find volunteers.
